Terms & Privacy

Plain language, because you should actually be able to read this. If anything here is unclear, email us and we'll explain it.

Last updated: August 2026
Early-access notice: I Got a Guy is newly launched and some features are still being finished. We don't process job payments — you pay your pro directly once the work is done, by whatever method the two of you agree.

Terms of Service

By creating an account you agree to these terms.

What we are

I Got a Guy is a marketplace. We connect homeowners with independent contractors. We are not a contractor, we don't perform the work, and the pros on this platform are independent businesses — not our employees.

Your account

  • You need a real email address; it's how we send job updates, quotes, and receipts.
  • Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
  • One person or business per account. Don't impersonate anyone.
  • You must be 18 or older.

Using the marketplace

  • Be accurate. Describe jobs honestly; quote honestly.
  • Keep the record straight. Quotes, scheduling, and messages run through I Got a Guy — that's what builds your service history and keeps reviews honest. Payment is between you and your pro, made directly.
  • Reviews come from real jobs. Buying, trading, or faking reviews gets an account removed.
  • No harassment or discrimination of any kind, by either side.

Money

I Got a Guy does not process job payments. Homeowners pay their pro directly — the price agreed on the accepted quote, by whatever method the two of you choose. We take no fee from jobs, hold no funds, and never see or store card or bank details. Listing on the platform is free for pros today; a monthly fee for pros will be introduced later, with notice, under the "Changes to these terms" section below. (Jobs completed before 17 August 2026 were paid through our former payment processor under the prior terms; those records are retained.)

Refunds

Refunds are agreed between you and the pro — you paid them directly and we were never in the money. Tell us if you can't reach an agreement and we'll help mediate, but we cannot issue or force a refund. Choose payment methods with their own protections when that matters to you.

The honest limits

A person here reviews every pro before their first lead — we check the business is real and reachable. Licence and insurance details are self-reported by the pro: we keep them on file and we do not independently verify them today. Ask to see a pro's licence and certificate of insurance before work starts. We can't guarantee the quality of anyone's work, and hiring decisions are yours. Our liability is limited to the fees you paid us. If something goes wrong on a job, tell us: we'll help mediate, and we remove pros who earn it.

Ending things

You can delete your account any time by emailing us. We can suspend accounts that violate these terms — we'll tell you why.

Changes to these terms and to our fees

We can change these terms, including future pro pricing, as the marketplace develops. When we do:

  • The current version always lives on this page, with the date it last changed at the top. That date is the version — there is no other copy.
  • For the introduction of pro pricing, or any change that meaningfully reduces what you get, we will tell pros by email at least 30 days before it takes effect. Smaller corrections — wording, clarifications, a new section that does not change what you pay or receive — take effect when posted.
  • The fee that applies to a job is the fee in force when the customer pays for it, not when the job was posted or quoted. If a fee change is coming and you have work in flight, that is the number to watch.
  • If you keep using I Got a Guy after a change takes effect, that is your acceptance of it. If you would rather not, you can stop taking work or delete your account, and nothing further is owed.
  • We will not change the fee on a job that has already been paid for. Anything settled is settled.

Per-job lead fees were removed entirely on 17 August 2026 — customers now pay pros directly. (Historical note: the lead fee changed from $10-or-1% to $10-or-10% on 14 August 2026. Everyone signed up at that point was part of a pilot group testing the platform, and no jobs had been paid for.

Privacy Policy

Short version: we collect what we need to run the marketplace, we don't sell your data, and we don't hand your contact details to the other side.

What we collect

  • Account info: name, email, phone, and (for pros) business name, trades, license number, and website.
  • Job info: what you posted, quotes, messages, schedules, payments, and reviews.
  • Property info (homeowners): addresses you add and the maintenance history built from your completed jobs.
  • Basic technical data: standard server logs.

What the other side sees

This is the part people care about most. Homeowners: pros see your first name, your job description, and the general area — never your phone number or email. Pros: homeowners see your business profile, trades, prices, and reviews. All conversation happens in the in-app message thread.

How we use it

To match jobs to pros, send you notifications about your own jobs, and keep the marketplace safe. That's it. We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers.

Who we share it with

Only service providers who help us operate: our hosting and database provider, our email provider, and our payment processor. They're bound to use it only to provide those services. We'll also disclose information if the law genuinely requires it.

Your choices

  • Edit or correct your information any time from your profile page.
  • Turn off job-update emails in your profile settings (in-app notifications continue).
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, or ask us to delete your account and personal information — email us and we'll take care of it.

Security

Passwords are hashed — we never see them. Traffic is encrypted over HTTPS. We don't process job payments, so card and bank details never touch our systems at all. (Payments made before 17 August 2026 were handled by our former payment processor; those records are retained.)

Additional terms for pros

  • Credentials. You must hold a current licence and liability insurance for every trade you accept work in, and keep them current. What you tell us is self-reported — we may ask for proof at any time, and we may verify it independently. Misrepresenting either is grounds for immediate removal, and the obligation is yours whether or not we check.
  • Listing is free today. There are no per-job fees; customers pay you directly. A monthly fee will be introduced later, with notice under "Changes to these terms".
  • Recommendations carry weight. When you vouch for another pro, your standing rides on their work.
  • Show up. Repeated no-shows, or quoting one price and charging another, will get you suspended.
  • You're independent. You set your own prices, hours, and which jobs you take. Nothing here creates an employment relationship.
